How Much Download Speed Do You Really Need?

More Is Better, Right? Maybe Not?

Terms used on this page WISP = Wireless Internet Service Provider   -   IPTV = Internet Protocol TeleVision

You may wonder why some WISP services advertise larger download speeds than others, and they will probably tell you that's because their system is simply just  better than the next guy. Of course as a customer your going to go for the highest advertised download speed, we all want more bang for our buck right?, but this is maybe a false economy. Let me explain, here at NetSeekers we cap our download speed at 15-20Mb to our customers, why? We could like all the other companies advertise a higher speed, our system certainly has the capacity to give more. We don't, because when there are sudden peaks in demand, our system will still have enough in reserve be to cope, whereas the others will fall over. This is simply because we are limiting the speed to each and everyone, then all our customers get a fairer share of the pie, which is better for all our customers, not just first come first served like the other companies. We have found when you actually measure their speeds with the correct tools, they don't actually achieve the speeds they advertise. Some even use tricks like "burst control" which allows the first set amount of data, to flow at a much higher rate, but then their system automatically throttle's back the speed, once the initial speed burst has finished. This tricks some speed test services into giving very generous (but false) figures.

IPTV
Amazon Firestick, Android Boxes etc etc. These are the biggest headache for any wireless internet service provider, why? Because of the way IPTV works, the picture  quality (pixilation etc.) is dependant on many factors, many of which are out of the control of the WISP. The actual average speed needed by the customer for IPTV is 3Mb  to 5Mb, so our 20Mb limit is more than ample.

Here Are The Facts As To Why You May Get Poor Results

Firstly and foremost is the Computer Servers that these services use, to put the program/film streams onto the web.

Secondly the amount of bandwidth the IPTV company has available to it, to send the content out on. Each customer that use their service will need his own amount of data bandwidth, from the providers server.

Thirdly these IPTV services are probably not in the country where you are, so the IPTV content has to transverse the different countries borders. There are even IPTV service providers in third world countries, serving up SKY premium channels at a hugely discounted price.

Fourthly is the quality of the internet you are getting from your wireless internet service provider, this includes speed and latency.

We thoroughly recommend you install the "Analiti" Firestick speed testing App on your Firestick

If we get customers complaining to us that their Amazon Firestick is pixelating, we always recommend firstly check their connection with "Analiti" and report back to us their findings. Then that they check their overall incoming connection with a professional speed testing service like Movistar (definitely not OOKLA or Speedtest)

The absolute best IPTV servers to be found are the ones used by Netflix, so if you can compare their picture quality with the one you are getting from your IPTV service, if you get a good service from Netflix but not from your third party IPTV service, then that IPTV service is the problem.

Unfortunately for us (from a sales point of view), we will not get involved in ripping off $KY Sports TV and we have never sold Amazon Firesticks, programmed up to get these dodgy IPTV services. This puts us at a disadvantage, because the only person doing this in the Alcossebre area, works in collaboration with another big internet service provider, (neither of which will admit to it) and points new potential internet customers in their direction (presumably on some sort of kick back arrangement). Their service is no better than our's, which because we wont break the law, it is unfair to us. It's just plain common sense, if someone is offering you SKY sports channels at a heavily discounted price, then its a illegal service. That's why they don't advertise, its all done word of mouth, through the Alcossebre grapevine.
